What actually changed
The iPhone 17 Pro Max brings Apple’s A19 Pro chip — a meaningful step up from the A18 Pro in sustained performance and efficiency. The design is thinner with a redesigned aluminium chassis. Battery life improved substantially — a consistent criticism of the 16 Pro Max was that it was not as strong as expected, and Apple addressed this. The display is still 6.9 inches at 120Hz ProMotion. The exception: if your battery health has degraded significantly or if you do professional video work and ProRes improvements matter to your workflow, the upgrade is more justifiable.
